As the 2025/2026 academic session draws closer, several Nigerian universities, federal, state, and private, have kept their admission doors open past the usual June closing deadlines. 

Some institutions still sell post-UTME or screening forms, offering hope to applicants whose scores came in late or who missed earlier opportunities. 

Which federal universities are still admitting students?

A surprising number of federal universities continue to sell post-UTME forms into June.

According to recent lists, at least 30 federal universities have active admissions. 

Among them are high-profile schools like UNILAG, UNIPORT, UNIZIK, UNILORIN, OAU, UI, FUTMINNA, ATBU, ABU, UNIMAID, FUTO, FUNAI, UNIABUJA, UNIBEN, FUPRE, FUD, and UNIPORT among others. 

These schools usually require UTME scores of 180–200, and continue to process applicants as long as holders of qualifying JAMB scores and valid O’Level results apply. 

Their continued openness reflects a capacity to fill quotas and maintain flexibility in admissions cycles.

Which state universities are still accepting applications?

State universities have also extended their admission windows, with over 40 state-owned universities still processing candidates by June. 

These include institutions like LASU, DELSU, EKSU, AAUA, IMUS, GSU, ABSU, UNIOSUN, and RSU, to name a few. 

Whereas most state universities close their post-UTME forms by early June, these institutions are still updating portals and verifying documents. 

Candidates with approved JAMB scores (usually 160–180 UTME) and matching O’Level results are still eligible for courses that remain available in Faculties typically including Education, Arts, Humanities, and Basic Sciences.

Which private universities still have open admission?

Several private universities continue to accept applications, focusing especially on internal screening rather than sheer UTME entry. 

Schools like Covenant, Babcock, Bowen, ABUAD, Elizade University, Maduka University, Peaceland University, Ritman University, Maranatha University, Topfaith University, and Atiba University are still requesting screening or post-UTME fees. 

These institutions often require UTME cut-offs of 140–180, followed by internal exams or interviews. 

Some of these schools, especially those with smaller populations, operate rolling admissions, allowing students to apply until programs reach capacity.

What about specialized and polytechnic schools?

Admissions are ongoing at vocational and technical schools such as Gateway ICT Polytechnic (GAPOSA), Delta State School of Marine Technology (DESOMATECH), Federal University of Allied Health Sciences, Enugu, as well as private mono-technics. 

GAPOSA continues to accept candidates with five O’Level credits (fee ₦2,000), while DESOMATECH has a JAMB threshold as low as 120, with forms running until July 31, 2025.

These institutions cater to niche professional courses and often admit candidates year-round until resources are committed.

Why are forms still available this late in the cycle?

Universities keep forms open late for several reasons: they may be operating on rolling admission systems, they might not have met their enrollment targets, or they are offering second-chance opportunities to candidates with borderline or improved UTME scores. 

Some schools reserve slots for direct entry candidates or transfer students, and choose to delay closing forms to accommodate such applicants.

Also, uncertainties such as industrial actions or administrative delays earlier in the year sometimes force institutions to extend their application timelines well beyond traditional deadlines.

For example, school portals often indicate closing dates of July and sometimes August. 

It is essential to complete applications early, upload valid documents including correct subject combinations, O’Level results, UTME print-outs, and passport photos and verify payment details to avoid disqualification.
