The Federal University of Technology Owerri (FUTO) has disclosed its school fee structure for both new and returning students admitted for the 2025 academic session.

What is the acceptance (development) fee for fresh students?

All newly admitted undergraduate students at FUTO must pay a one-time acceptance fee of ₦52,500, also called a development levy. 

This fee confirms your seat and allows you to register on the school portal, generate school fee invoices, and begin clearance. 

You usually get about two weeks to complete this payment.

How much do freshers pay in total school fees?

Fresh students pay a consolidated school fee ranging from ₦108,000 to ₦393,000, depending on their faculty:

  • Medicine & Surgery: ₦393,000

  • Anatomy & Physiology: ₦130,000

  • Health Sciences: ₦115,000

  • Engineering: ₦120,000

  • Geology & Architecture: ₦111,000

  • Other courses: ~₦108,000

These amounts include tuition and general levies but may exclude extra-departmental charges like field trips, professional fees, and hosting.

How much do returning students pay each session?

Returning students (200L–500L) have a much lower fee, because one-off payments are not repeated. Their standard sessional school fee is ₦62,500. 

This covers recurring costs such as tuition, ICT, library, lab, medical, exam, and union dues.

Do fees differ between faculties for returning students?

No. Returning students in all faculties pay the same ₦62,500 each academic session.

International students pay in USD terms for tuition but the local fees remain the same.

What are the breakdowns of other compulsory charges?

In both freshers and returning categories, several standard levies apply annually. 

For returning students, these typically include:

  • Sports – ₦1,000

  • Examination – ₦1,000

  • Registration – ₦1,000

  • Municipal/utility charge – ₦1,000

  • Medical fitness – ₦2,500 (Final year only)

Yes. On‑campus accommodation costs:

Do international or postgraduate students pay differently?

How do I pay my school fees at FUTO?

To pay:

  1. Log in to the FUTO portal with your details

  2. Generate an invoice via your dashboard (Remita RRR code)

  3. Pay via Remita online (bank/ATM/app or print and pay at bank)

  4. Return to portal to validate payment and print receipt and clearance forms
